About

A twenty-something “creative type” living in Greater Manchester, England, here, who’s planning to fly 5,862 miles (or thereabouts) to Bangkok, Thailand. I booked the flight after a vodka-fuelled disagreement at 2am in Liverpool, but solo travel is something I’ve always wanted to do, so I kept on planning long after the hangover. After spending just over 2 weeks in the “Land of Smiles”, I’ll be heading into Laos, and then Cambodia, where I’ll get to marvel at Angkor.

Solo Female Travel In SE Asia

This will be my first ever solo trip overseas, and I’m going to document it right here for all to read (and see – I’ll upload some photos, too). The aim of this blog is to help others who are planning a similar trip, but it should also help to keep me somewhat sane as I go it alone for the very first time.

Map of Southeast Asia - Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia

Since sharing the news about my spontaneous flight booking to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, people’s reactions have varied greatly, from mild curiosity and intrigue, to extreme concern and shock that I’m travelling alone to a place that’s so often spoken about in conjunction with crime, the sex trade and fried insects. Nevertheless, if I make it home relatively unscathed, I will forever be convinced that anybody – no matter their age, gender or personal fears – can do it.

Follow My Journey Through Southeast Asia

If you wish to find out more about my trip and how I’m going to do it, I’ll be writing about my experiences as a solo female traveller in Southeast Asia here and on my Twitter account @ksfahey.

[Update! I did it – I’m home! Why not have a read of what I got up to on my solo female travel blog here?]

That’s the plan! Although I’m not sure what direction to take it in yet, but as long as people keep reading (and enjoying) my posts, I’ll keep writing!

Good luck on your journey! I hadn’t realized until reading this page that you flew to South East Asia at such short notice. Have a good (and safe!) time. 😀
